Dracula, as if we did not have enough films, even some good ones, the best being the ones avoiding the title (aka Nosferatu, both old and new). So what did we get here to make it sell the script, a love tale, aha! Wow interesting - NOT! A switch of locations to France for unknow reasons, except the director being French - OK. But keeping some characters with their English names felt weird - OK, some others were completely ignore or got quite a twist and a new name, like Lucy becoming Mary and goig full OTT all the time and van Helsing mutated into a strange priest with a little Karras in him and way too much Landa (well that seems to be all that Christoph Waltz has to offer). The pre vampire times was looked at a little more than usual, but left out the detailed departure from God which caused the curse, that should heve been shown more intensively to make sense of the focus on that. Then came some tedious back and fourth in time jumps and some very quick travellings, which is OK as the films was already too long thanks to ridiculous dance scenes and laughable CGI Gargoyles...
I could now also go into my expertise on vampires and shred the film to pieces upon all the pointless changes and ignorings of the lore whenever it helped the story, let's just say they survived way too much sun towards the end...
What a disappointing film from Luc Besson who could do better in the past...
I could give it the lowest rating as I was so disappointed and the film was pretty trashy in places and also some poor direction/scripting... But I am grateful they did not sing, so I'll end up with a 5.
