The unwieldy title of tonight's sneak movie did not come of the mind of screenwriter/director Gus van Sant ("Good Will Hunting", "Milk"); he took it from the book that his film is based on, the auto-biography of cartoonist John Callahan, which was released way back in 1990. The book, which - as the movie - recounts the steps Callahan took both to its lowest point, drunk and in a wheelchair, and back from there to a sober life with success as a often politically incorrect cartoonist, was optioned for movie adaptation soon thereafter by none other than Robin Williams, who talked with van Sant about making this movie two decades ago. Well, it took quite a while to get this done, not only Williams, but also Callahan himself passed away before a single scene was filmed.

But here's the trailer for "Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot":

What did you think of the film, which of course rests firmly on Joaquin Phoenix and his portrayal of Callahan, as well as the self-deprecating humor and witty writing of Gus van Sant? What did you think of the supporting cast, first and foremost Jonah Hill as AA sponsor Donnie, but also Rooney Mara, Jack Black, Udo Kier, and Beth Ditto? Just put your opinion in a reply to this post - you may also draw a comic strip, if you like. 8-)
