#1262 Welcome to Marwen

Beitrag von Kasi Mir »

Let's start with a trailer - but not the one for "Welcome to Marwen":

That is "Marwencol" a 2010 documentary about the real Mark Hogencamp, which director Robert Zemeckis ("Back to the Future", "Forrest Gump") adapted into a drama with the help of veteran scribe Caroline Thompson ("Edward Scissorhands", "Corpse Bride"). It's not the first time that Zemeckis fictionalized true events previously featured in a documentary; his 2015 film "The Walk", starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, was inspired by the 2008 doc "Man on Wire". With Zemeckis being a director with a flair for visuals, it's no wonder that he has used modern CGI to show the audience what in real-life only exists in Hogencamp's pictures and his mind: recreations of his WW2 stories taking place in a small belgian town.

Now it's time for the trailer to Zemeckis' version:

How did you like the film? What about the performances by the actors, many of which played both living people and voiced their doll counterparts as well, starting with Steve Carell as Mark himself and Cpz. Hoagie, Leslie Mann as Nicol, Merrit Weaver als friend and toy store owner Roberta, Eiza González as waitress Carlala, up to Diane Kruger in a voice-only part as evil witch Deja? How did you enjoy the visuals, and what did you think of the plot? Please write your thoughts down in a reply to this post - but beware of those evil, evil nazis ...

Technisch unglaublich gut gemacht. So Mittel.
