#1244 Mary Shelley

Beitrag von Kasi Mir »

And there we have another biopic about a famous novelist and his (or, as in this case, her) most famous work. Everyone knows "Frankenstein" at least from one of the dozens of movies depicting the titular mad scientist and the monster of his creation. Most of them bear only a passing resemblance to the original 1818 novel by Londoner Mary Shelley called "Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus". But after digging around for about an hour on the Internet, it seems that this is par for the course with the script by first-timer Emma Jensen (with additional writing by al-Mansour herself) - the movie seems to take quite a few liberties with the recorded facts, as Graham Henderson's blog "The Real Percy Shelley", The Hollywood Reporter and Refinery29 point out.

Anyway, this is how the film looks as a trailer:

How did you enjoy this newest making-of of a famous book? How about the perfomances, first and foremost by Elle Fanning in the title role, but also by Douglas Booth as Percy Shelley, Stephen Dillane as her father, Bel Powley ("The Diary of a Teenage Girl") as her half-sister claire or Tom Sturridge as Lord Byron? Please let us know your thoughts about "Mary Shelley" in a reply to this post, so that we don't have to coax it out of you by, um, electrical stimulation ... 8-)
